Is law enforcement required to remove victim contact information from their report?

In most cases, law enforcement is not required to redact the victim’s contact information from their report. However, in sexual assault cases, federal law may require law enforcement to redact the “intimate details” of the assault including the victim’s name and contact information. Bloch v. Ribar, 156 F.3d 673 (1998). Implementing legislation may require law enforcement to redact victim names and identifying information prior to the public release of this information.
